We built an eco friendly shelter using recycled empty cement bags, which were filled with mud. The foundation was dug, filled with stones and cemented and bags were piled one on top of the other, using barbed wire between layers to prevent slippage. Wooden frames were added for the windows and doors. A tiled roof made of recycled tiles provided relief from the rain. Figuring out the lime plaster for the walls was an adventure in itself. A forgotten art, we finally found some open source material on the net explaining how to do it. Mixing the lime and sand, which previously used to be done by elephants / bulls was done manually using stones. The home is almost nearing completion and will soon be ready to host visitors.
